MOSCOW. April 26 (Interfax) - A future Russian super heavy-lift launch vehicle will have to be reusable to make its launches cheaper, Roscosmos CEO Yury Borisov said.
"Reusability will definitely be a mandatory requirement in developing this future launch vehicle," Borisov said at the Knowledge.First Enlightenment Marathon on Wednesday.
Speaking on April 14, Borisov said Roscosmos would resume the development of a super heavy-lift launch vehicle in 2024, and its development would tentatively take eight or nine years.
While meeting with a council of young scientists on December 30, 2022, Borisov said the development of a super heavy-lift launch vehicle was among priorities for the Russian space industry.
Progress Space Rocket Center head Dmitry Baranov said on February 10, 2021 that the development of the Yenisei launch vehicle designed for a lunar program was suspended, and the designers were waiting for a final decision on amending its conceptual design.
As reported previously, the Russian Academy of Sciences' Council on Space recommended that the development of a super heavy-lift launch vehicle for missions to the Moon be suspended indefinitely.
