Xi-Zelensky phone call is sovereign affair of China, Ukraine - Peskov (Part 2)

MOSCOW. April 27 (Interfax) - The recent phone call between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky is a sovereign affair of these two countries, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"As for the fact of the communication itself, that is a sovereign affair of each of these two countries and a matter of their bilateral dialogue," Peskov told reporters on Thursday in response to a question about how the Kremlin assessed the phone call.

Journalists asked Peskov whether, in the Kremlin's opinion, the Xi-Zelensky call might bring the end of the Ukraine conflict closer.

"We are ready to welcome everything that can bring the end of the Ukraine conflict and the achievement of every goal set by Russia closer," Peskov said.

Journalists also drew Peskov's attention to a statement by Zelensky's office, according to which the Ukrainian and Chinese peace plans "had some common ground," and wondered whether the Kremlin knew what this was referring to.

"We know," Peskov said, adding that such information "has been provided by Zelensky and our Chinese partners on more than one occasion, and every main parameter of those plans has been made public."

He also said there were no plans to arrange new contacts between Putin and Xi in the foreseeable future.
