Azerbaijani FM expects Armenia to return to negotiating table

BAKU. April 27 (Interfax) - Armenia is likely to return to the negotiating table on a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, although Baku views Yerevan's policy regarding the matter as unconstructive, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said.

"Unfortunately, Armenia is pursuing an unconstructive policy. At the same time, Azerbaijan is prepared for negotiations [on a peace treaty]," Bayramov said at a press conference with French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna in Baku on Thursday.

"Armenia is expected to return to the negotiating table in the near future," Bayramov said.

The Armenian-Azerbaijani border could be delimitated and the transport routes in the region could be opened quicker, he said.

Bayramov said he informed Colonna of the current situation in the region.

While commenting on the situation surrounding the Lachin road, Bayramov insisted that it is open to traffic and that Armenia is manipulating the matter.

In particular, Bayramov accused Armenia of having used the Lachin road not as intended but for unlawfully transferring troops and munitions. "As a result, 294 Azerbaijani citizens have fallen victim to mines" since November 2020, he said.
