Moscow court orders arrest of Russian treason suspect

MOSCOW. April 27 (Interfax) - Moscow's Lefortovsky District Court has ordered the arrest of a Russian man suspected of treason.

"The court granted an investigator's petition to select for R.N. Rasulov a restraining measure in the form of remand in custody," the court told Interfax.

The man is being charged with treason, which carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years.

The charge implies that Rasulov, a Russian citizen, provided a foreign state, an international or foreign organization, or representatives thereof with a state secret the person was entrusted with or became aware of through work or otherwise, as stipulated by Russian laws, and may also have provided financial, technical, material, consulting or other assistance to a foreign state, or a foreign organization, or their representatives, as part of an activity aimed against Russia's security.

The hearing was held behind closed doors because the case is classified, the court said.

Neither the court, nor investigators have provided Interfax with more detailed comments on the matter yet.
