Russian Defense Ministry announces appointments of new Baltic, Pacific Fleet commanders

MOSCOW. April 28 (Interfax) - Russian Navy Commander Nikolai Yevmenov introduced Vice Adm. Vladimir Vorobyov as new commander of Russia's Baltic Fleet to its commanding staff on Friday, the Defense Ministry said.

"Vice Adm. Vladimir Vorobyov has been appointed commander of the Baltic Fleet by a Russian presidential decree instead of Adm. Viktor Liina, who has been appointed Pacific Fleet commander instead of Adm. Sergei Avakyants, who has been discharged from military service upon reaching the age limit," it said.

During the ceremony in Kaliningrad, Yevmenov announced plans to continue arming the Baltic Fleet with modern ships and weapon systems.
