YEREVAN. April 28 (Interfax) - Armenia is not going to negotiate the Lachin corridor, the only road connecting Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia, with Azerbaijan, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said.
"Every agreement regarding the Lachin corridor has been reached and formalized by the statement dated November 9, 2020 [the statement by the heads of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia regarding Nagorno-Karabakh]. Armenia was not and is not going to participate in discussions of new regulations on the functioning of the Lachin corridor," Mirzoyan said at a joint press conference with French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna in Yerevan on Friday.
The agreements, "and not just those pertaining to the Lachin corridor, should be strictly honored in order to make serious progress in the process of comprehensive settlement between Armenia and Azerbaijan possible," he said.
"Azerbaijani actions in the Lachin corridor are absolutely unlawful. As for the provision of rights and security of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, they can be discussed in the format of negotiations between Stepanakert and Baku," Mirzoyan said.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said on Thursday that Armenia had refused to exercise parallel control on the border, at the entrance to the Lachin corridor, and Baku took steps to ensure a transparent control mechanism.
