Russian, CIS citizens, diplomats evacuated from Sudan by military transport planes - Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. May 2 (Interfax) - Four Ilyushin Il-76 military transport planes of the Russian Aerospace Forces have evacuated from Sudan employees of the Russian diplomatic mission, representatives of the Russian Defense Ministry and their family members, citizens of Russia, other states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and a number of friendly foreign countries who have asked Russia to help them return home, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"By the decision of the president of the Russian Federation, the Russian Defense Ministry evacuated from Sudan employees of the Russian diplomatic mission, the missions of the Russian Defense Ministry and their family members, citizens of the Russian Federation, CIS countries and a number of friendly foreign states who requested assistance with their return to their home countries," the ministry said.

The Russian Aerospace Forces planes are transporting more than 200 people, as well as persons accompanying them and cargo from Sudan to Russia, it said.
