Several terror attacks prevented in 2023 - Kazakh National Security Committee head

ASTANA. May 2 (Interfax) - Kazakh National Security Committee Chairman Yermak Saginbayev has briefed Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the prevention of several terror attacks this year, the presidential press service said on Tuesday.

"Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has been informed about the prevention of a series of terror attacks, including the use of an improvised explosive device in a public area, by National Security Committee divisions. Nineteen persons have been arrested in that connection," the press service said.

Exercises coordinated by the antiterrorist center's headquarters have been held to improve the countering of terrorist threats, Saginbayev said.

"Operations have been carried out to counter intelligence by foreign security services. A number of uncovered facts are undergoing pretrial investigation," the press service said.
