MOSCOW. May 2 (Interfax) - The Kremlin will closely monitor the situation surrounding the United States national debt, noting that the U.S. authorities have previously found solutions to solve problems with it, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"We are certainly not looking from the outside. We see that, of course, like the global economy, the U.S. economy is experiencing certain problems right now. This is high inflation, the continuation of inflation expectations at quite a high level. Of course, we are monitoring all of this very closely, all of our fiscal agencies," Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.
"On the other hand, this is not the first time this has all happened in the United States with enviable regularity. So far, they have found solutions. We will watch closely this time, as well," the Kremlin spokesman said.
As reported, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a letter to the leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives that the agency could exhaust its available resources by June 1 if the Congress does not raise the national debt limit.
She earlier said that the default situation could lead to negative consequences for the U.S. economy and financial industry.
