Bucharest to back Moldova's army reform - Romanian defense minister

CHISINAU. May 2 (Interfax) - Romania supports Moldova's army reform initiative and stands for the development of strategic cooperation between the two defense ministries, Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tilvar said.

"Bucharest supports the aspiration of Moldova to counter hybrid threats and to launch a reform of the Moldovan army. Respective agencies of Chisinau and Bucharest are cooperating effectively. We view the Republic of Moldova as a strategic priority. It is important to strengthen military cooperation, including education. Every army needs well trained specialists," Tilvar said at a press briefing in Chisinau on Tuesday.

Tilvar said he had discussed the situation in Moldova and regional developments with Moldovan Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii. In his opinion, Moldova has handled challenges of the recent crisis but needs further support.

He also said that the international community should support Moldova as a state facing hybrid threats, such as disinformation and propaganda. In this context, he welcomed the EU's decision to deploy a civilian mission to Moldova to help deal with those threats.
