ROSTOV-ON-DON. May 2 (Interfax) - The operations of a three-member sabotage and reconnaissance group of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have been neutralized in the Zaporozhye region, the regional department of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) told reporters.
"The FSB department in the Zaporozhye region, working together with the Russian Interior Ministry's Zaporozhye regional department, have uncovered and neutralized the operations of a sabotage and reconnaissance group consisting of one Ukrainian and two Russian citizens, through operative and investigative measures," the department said in a press release.
According to the FSB, the suspects were involved in an attack on April 27 on a deputy police chief and personnel department head of the Melitopol division of the Interior Ministry's Zaporozhye regional department, who died of his injuries. Their caches contained elements of an improvised explosive device, automatic weapons, body armor, and uniforms of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"It has also been documented that members of the sabotage and reconnaissance group planned to carry out another terror attack on a senior officer of the city police during the May 2023 holidays, in order to destabilize regional authorities and intimidate the region's population," the press release said.
