LLS Ivan Gren to conduct live fire exercise in Barents Sea

MOSCOW. May 2 (Interfax) - The large landing ship (LLS) Ivan Gren has sailed into the Barents Sea from its base at Severomorsk to practice routine missions, the Northern Fleet said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The ship will conduct a number of artillery drills at the Fleet's offshore and onshore combat training ranges, firing at a floating mine and a mock air target. It will also practice suppressing a mock enemy firing point on the coast," the statement said.

Additionally, the ship will conduct an exercise in anti-sabotage defense while anchored in an unprotected roadstead, with marines practicing throwing grenades.

The Ivan Gren is the lead ship of Project 11711, built by the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad. It entered service with the Russian Navy on June 20, 2018.

The ship can carry up to 300 personnel as well as 13 battle tanks or 36 main-type armored vehicles. The ship's deck can host two helicopters.
