MOSCOW. May 3 (Interfax) - A petroleum product storage tank has caught fire in the village of Volna in Russia's Krasnodar Territory, there are no casualties, Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said on Telegram.
"A petroleum product tank has caught fire in the village of Volna in the Temryuk district. The fire was designated as the highest category. According to the preliminary information, there are no casualties. I am monitoring the situation," Kondratyev said.
In his words, there is no risk to the local population.
The governor denied online reports alleging Volna evacuation amid the fire on the petroleum tank complex.
"Evacuation of residents from the Volna town in the Temryuk district has been claimed online. This information is incorrect," Kondratyev said on Telegram on Wednesday.
He said there was no need for evacuation and asked local residents to stay calm.
In turn, head of the Temryuk district administration Fyodor Babenkov said on Telegram that the fire had spread onto 1,200 square meters.
"Visited the incident scene in Volna. Special services are at work on the premises of Tamanneftegaz. The fire is burning on 1,200 square meters. There are no casualties," Babenkov said.
According to Babenkov, 85 people and 23 vehicles are putting out the fire. Its causes are being investigated.
