Number of V-day events canceled in Lugansk

ROSTOV-ON-DON. May 3 (Interfax) - The authorities of the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) will cancel a number of largescale events commemorating Victory Day on May 9 for security reasons, LPR Minister of Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports Dmitry Sidorov said.

"There are difficulties now related to the military situation, and a large number of festivities that we have planned as mass events will be canceled," the Lugansk Information Center quoted Sidorov as saying.

However, on May 9, Lugansk will host the Immortal Auto Regiment of Lugansk procession, during which LPR residents will decorate the rear windshields of their cars with photos of their relatives who died in the Great Patriotic War or during hostilities in Donbass since 2014, he said. Visits will also be paid to veterans to congratulate them on Victory Day and there will be a fireworks display, he added.

"We plan to hold a fireworks display and pyrotechnic show at the Avangard stadium in Lugansk on May 9. We will certainly inform you of its time in an additional announcement," Sidorov said.
