YEREVAN. May 3 (Interfax) - Only a comprehensive peace can guarantee Armenia's security, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"Only a comprehensive peace can guarantee Armenia's security. We believe peace requires political will and detailed parameters for achieving peace. We have the political will. But the question remains as to how far we can establish the parameters of a peace process through negotiation, to make the[se parameters] acceptable to the Armenian people," Pashinyan said.
The parameters for achieving peace may be acceptable or unacceptable to the Armenian people, he said.
"Our objective is to be able to balance and align reality, acceptability, and emotions regarding this issue. We will do our utmost to make this happen. We are living in a time of global uncertainties and are waking through a minefield. And we have to make additional efforts," Pashinyan said.
The systems for ensuring security and stability in the region have become distorted, he said.
"The system that was originally supposed to ensure peace and stability in the region is not functioning effectively enough. Our strategic goal is to manage the challenges that have resulted from this distortion. It's quite possible that a new component could be added to the general security architecture, but it's not a given that this will guarantee strategic security. Any new components may both [help] manage risks and add new risks," Pashinyan said.
