Nordic countries provide Ukraine with assistance worth 4.4 bln euros, ready to provide more support - premiers' statement

HELSINKI. May 3 (Interfax) - The Nordic countries have so far provided Ukraine will military assistance totaling around 4.4 billion euros, and new support packages are currently being prepared, according to a statement adopted at a meeting of the Nordic countries' prime ministers in Helsinki on Wednesday.

Financial, humanitarian and emergency assistance provided by these countries was estimated at 1.5 billion euros.

According to the statement, the Nordic countries are ready to provide support to Ukraine for as long as it is necessary, and to assist with Ukraine's reconstruction.

Ukraine's future lies within the Euro-Atlantic family, the statement said.

The Nordic member states of the European Union pledged to support Ukraine in implementing the requirements for the start of talks on EU membership, and on its path towards NATO membership.

The statement was read out at a press conference following the prime ministers' meeting. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky also took part in the meeting.

Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson, Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Stoere, Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen, and Prime Minister of Iceland Katrin Jakobsdottir are participating in the Nordic summit.
