Kremlin says unaware of Vatican's detailed peace plan for Ukraine

MOSCOW. May 4 (Interfax) - Moscow knows of Pope Francis's aspiration for peace in Ukraine but has no knowledge of any detailed plans of the kind drawn up by the Vatican, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"We know that the pontiff keeps thinking about peace. We also know that the pontiff is thinking about how to end this conflict. Yet we have no knowledge of any detailed plans the Vatican could offer in this context," Peskov told reporters on Thursday.

He thus answered a question on whether the Kremlin and the Vatican could have contacts on a peace settlement in Ukraine and whether a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pope Francis was possible.

The pontiff said earlier that he was part of a nonpublic peace mission related to the Ukraine conflict.
