Armenia hopes for opening of land border with Turkey

YEREVAN. May 4 (Interfax) - Armenia hopes that its border with Turkey will open to international traffic and cargo traffic, Armenian Parliamentary Speaker Alen Simonyan said.

"Armenia and Turkey started the process of settling their relations last year, in which some progress was registered, but there are still many unresolved issues. We hope the land border will open to international traffic and cargo in the near future," Simonyan said at a summit of parliamentary speakers from the member countries of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation's Parliamentary Assembly in Ankara on Thursday.

"Armenia is ready to continue unblocking regional communication routes based on the principles of full-fledged respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and national legislation. We do not have territorial claims on our neighbors and we expect our neighbors to follow these principles as well," Simonyan said.

Simonyan said he is certain regional economic cooperation can strengthen peace and stability.
