Vivamedi clinic doesn't confirm Saakashvili's allegations of losing consciousness, head injury

TBILISI. May 4 (Interfax) - There is no threat to the life of Georgia's ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, Zurab Chkhaidze, director of Tbilisi's Vivamedi clinic, told reporters on Thursday.

However, complications are possible due to his refusal of proper treatment and nutrition, he said.

Commenting on the information that Saakashvili lost consciousness in his ward, Chkhaidze said medical personnel have not confirmed this, and he did not lose consciousness.

"I cannot confirm or deny this episode. Besides, there isn't an iron table in Saakashvili's ward," Chkhaidze said.

Saakashvili earlier said on social media that he was "on the brink of death" when he lost consciousness again in a hospital ward in the Vivamedi clinic and hit his head on an iron table.

"Despite the necessary medical procedures that were conducted, I lost consciousness twice last Saturday (April 29). Yesterday, on May 2, I had transfusions due to a fall in my body's potassium levels. I lost consciousness again today, and I was on the brink of death; I hit my head on an iron table when I fell. I want to thank the medical personnel who assisted me in a timely manner," Saakashvili said.

Chkhaidze told reporters earlier last week that Saakashvili had refused the services of another doctor, as she had not confirmed the information on the critical state of his health disseminated by Saakashvili's relatives and loved ones.

Saakashvili is implicated in several criminal cases in Georgia. He says his detention is illegal and that he has been framed.
