MOSCOW. May 4 (Interfax) - The Russian military has used Iskander short-range ballistic missile systems in simulated individual and mass strikes in Russia's Kaliningrad region, the Baltic Fleet's press service said on Thursday.
"During a scheduled exercise, units stealthy deployed the missile systems to the designated area, prepared launch positions, and performed simulated individual and mass launches against targets representing mock enemy missile system launch vehicles, airfields, protected sites, concentrations of military hardware and command posts," it said.
Following the simulated launches, the systems were redeployed to evade a possible counterstrike, it said.
"The fleet's missile formation trained at operating on radioactive and chemically contaminated terrain and deterring attacks by mock enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups," the press service said.
About a hundred troops and some 20 pieces of military and special hardware took part in the exercise, it said.
