YEREVAN. May 4 (Interfax) - A peace agreement with Azerbaijan is being prevented by an absence in the document's text of Baku's recognition of Armenia's territorial integrity, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"We are ready to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan. There is no alternative to peace in the region. The main obstacle to signing it is the fact that it has not been possible until now to reach agreement on a text that would clearly state that Azerbaijan recognizes Armenia's territorial integrity, with a territory of 29,800 square meters. This is the territory of Soviet Armenia," Pashinyan said at the Prague Center for Transatlantic Relations on Thursday.
Agreement has yet to be reached on the mechanisms for resolving differences in the comments on the peace agreement's text, he said.
"There is no agreement on the issue of international mechanisms for implementing a peace agreement," Pashinyan said.
A mechanism for guaranteeing the rights and security of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh and the format of the dialogue between Baku and Stepanakert have not been determined yet, he said.
"However, we continue our efforts to achieve results in all these areas," the Armenian prime minister said.
