Russian forces destroy several Ukrainian temporary bases in special operation zone in DPR and Zaporozhye region over past day

MOSCOW. May 5 (Interfax) - Several temporary bases of Ukrainian troops were destroyed in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and the Zaporozhye region over the past day during the special military operation, spokesman for the eastern group of forces Alexander Gordeyev said.

"Tyulpan self-propelled mortars destroyed an enemy temporary base near Velikaya Novosyolka [in the DPR], while Akatsiya self-propelled artillery systems destroyed a fortified position in the vicinity of Prechistovka [in the DPR] detected during air reconnaissance," Gordeyev said.

An armored vehicle was destroyed and more than ten Ukrainian troops were killed in those strikes, he said.

"In the southern Donetsk sector, forward units of the eastern group of forces, backed by artillery, thwarted the enemy's attempt to carry out a reconnaissance by fire operation," Gordeyev said.

Twelve Ukrainian troops were killed, he said.

Tor air defense systems shot down Ukrainian Leleka and Valkiria UAVs, Gordeyev said.

Two Gvozdika self-propelled systems of the Ukrainian army were exposed by artillery reconnaissance systems and were destroyed by fire from an Uragan multiple launch rocket system and a Malka self-propelled artillery system during a counterbattery duel near Annovka in the DPR, he said.

In the Zaporozhye sector, units equipped with Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems exposed and destroyed a temporary base of Ukrainian forces in the vicinity of Chervonaya. Five Ukrainian troops were killed. Another six Ukrainian troops were killed in an anti-tank guided missile strike that hit their temporary base, while a Lantset unmanned aerial vehicle, which acts as a loitering munition, destroyed a Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system near Malye Shcherbaki.

"A plane-type UAV and five kamikaze drones were destroyed by small arms fire," Gordeyev said.
