TALLINN. May 5 (Interfax) - The Estonian government announced the Okas 23-2 (Thorn 23-2) territorial defense exercise on Friday.
"There is no direct threat to the security of Estonia, and the exercise is being conducted for training purposes," the government press service said on Friday.
Okas 23-2 will be held on May 5-7.
Up to 607 men from five units of the southern territorial defense district will be summoned for the exercise, alongside up to 300 volunteers from the Kaitseliit volunteer paramilitary organization to support the training.
The exercise will help evaluate the efficiency of the chain of command, from a government decision to assembling reservists of the Rapid Response Forces. The soldiers will also train in conducting ambushes, and in establishing and operating roadblocks.
"The Estonian state defense model is based on armed reserves. It has proven viable as an effective instrument of deterrence," the government said.
The previous Okas exercise was held on January 26 - February 23, 2023.
