ST. PETERSBURG. May 5 (Interfax) - Measures for preventing crime are to be implemented in the border areas of Russia's Leningrad region in May in order to step up border control, the press service for the Federal Security Service's regional border department said.
"We ask residents of border communities in the Leningrad region to carry IDs in order to avoid possible misunderstandings, and to show understanding of the inconvenience such control measures might cause," the press service said.
The police and the Russian National Guard will take part in the checks, it said.
The Leningrad region shares a border with Estonia and Finland.
