MOSCOW. May 5 (Interfax) - The Second Western District Military Court has sentenced former Russian soldier Artyom Semyonov to 13 years in a high-security penitentiary on counts of treason, an Interfax correspondent reported.
"Semyonov is sentenced to 13 years in a high-security penitentiary," the court said in its judgment on Friday.
Semyonov was also stripped of the rank of sergeant.
The court did not impose additional fines or restrictions on the convict's freedom due to his financial status.
Semyonov was found guilty of treason.
Case materials cited in the judicial disposition indicate that Semyonov was detained on March 30, 2022.
According to the court's press service, Semyonov was stationed in the Belgorod region prior to his detention, and committed the crime before the beginning of the special military operation.
The trial was held in camera due to the use of classified materials in the proceeding.
Investigators withheld details of the case.
