BRUSSELS. May 5 (Interfax) - The Council of the EU approved the allocation of 1 billion euros on Friday to procure artillery rounds and missiles for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"The Council today adopted an assistance measure worth 1 billion euro under the European Peace Facility (EPF) that will further contribute to strengthening the capabilities and resilience of Ukraine," the Council said in a statement.
In particular, this measure will finance the procurement of 155mm artillery rounds and, if requested, missiles for the Ukrainian military, it said.
Along with a previous decision to provide Ukraine with ammunition from existing EU stocks, the EU is committing 2 billion euros for the purpose, which brings the total amount of the EU's military support for Ukraine to 5.6 billion euros, it said.
