ROSTOV-ON-DON. May 10 (Interfax) - A Ukrainian citizen has been charged with plotting a terror attack in the Zaporozhye region, the regional department of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Wednesday.
"Security service officers have identified a 31-year-old resident of Ukraine with a criminal record, who came to the Zaporozhye region to commit sabotage and terrorism on the orders from the Main Intelligence Department of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry," the FSB said.
He was tasked with killing officials and law enforcement officers of the region, and the Kirillovka police chief was marked as his first target, the FSB said.
The suspect put up armed resistance to the arresting officers but was disarmed by FSB special operators. Improvised bomb components were seized from his place of residence. A criminal case was opened on counts of a terror attack plot (Part 1, Article 30 and Part 2 Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code).
