Russia preserves memory of Heydar Aliyev, his role in history of Russian-Azerbaijani relations - Kremlin

MOSCOW. May 10 (Interfax) - Former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev, who would have turned 100 on Wednesday, was an extraordinary person, and Russia remembers his role in the history of the USSR and contemporary Azerbaijan and in the current relationship between Moscow and Baku, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"This was an absolutely extraordinary person, who was part of the history of our once common country, who has become part of contemporary Azerbaijan's history forever, and who has become part of the history of current Russian-Azerbaijani relations," Peskov told journalists on Wednesday, when asked how the Kremlin marked Heydar Aliyev's centennial.

"We share the joy of this date together with our Azerbaijani friends, and certainly, we preserve the memory of the role that Heydar Aliyev played in everything that we mentioned before," he said.
