ST. PETERSBURG. May 11 (Interfax) - Russian Investigative Committee Chairman Alexander Bastrykin has said the number of migrants in the country grew last year.
"We had 14.5 million migrants in 2022, and 12 million in 2021. That means the number of migrants is increasing, and the number of serious crimes committed by migrants is rising sharply," he said at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum on Thursday.
Bastrykin noted that crimes committed among migrants can be "observed in big cities" most of all.
The number of grave and especially grave crimes committed by migrants and recorded by all law enforcement agencies soared last year from 11,000 to almost 15,000, or by 37%, while the number of murders among them rose by 18%.
The Investigative Committee's head also noted an increase in crimes committed using computer technology.
"Last year, our agency's investigators examined over 155,000 crimes committed with the use of computer technology, which is 29% more than in 2021," Bastrykin said.
