BRUSSELS. May 11 (Interfax) - The European Union has provided more than 1,000 missiles to Kiev as part of its program to supply munitions to Ukraine, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell said.
"We have provided more than 1,000 missiles [to Ukraine] since February 9, when we started the three tracks [three-track plan] to provide ammunition," Borrell said at the European Defense and Security Summit in Brussels.
He did not specify the types of missiles supplied.
"I know it's not enough [...] President Zelensky has just said he is going to delay the counteroffensive. Certainly, they [Ukraine] need more preparation, they need more arms, they need to gather more capacity. And it is us who have to provide for it," Borrell said.
EU countries' foreign and defense ministers reached an agreement on March 20, 2023, to provide Ukraine with artillery shells from their current reserves, and also to increase military production in the EU to guarantee such supplies.
On April 13, the Council of the European Union fulfilled the first part of the agreement and approved a sum of one billion euros under the European Peace Facility to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On May 5, the Council of the European Union approved the provision of one billion euros for the procurement of artillery shells and missiles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
