Ukrainian Su-27 fighter downed near Chasov Yar in DPR - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. May 12 (Interfax) - The Russian Defense Ministry has reported downing a Ukrainian Su-27 fighter aircraft in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and destroying a storage of artillery ammunition near Avdeyevka.

"Air defense forces have downed a Su-27 fighter of the Ukrainian Air Force near Chasov Yar in the Donetsk People's Republic," ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said at a press briefing on Friday.

"A depot of artillery munitions of the 110th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has been destroyed near Avdeyevka," he said.

Two sabotage and reconnaissance crews were also eliminated in the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) over the past night, he said.

"In the Krasny Liman sector, tactical and army aircraft and artillery of the central group of forces struck Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel near Torskoye of the Donetsk People's Republic," he said.

The Ukrainian army lost over 75 troops, three armored fighting vehicles, three pickup trucks, an Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system, and a D-20 howitzer in said area, he said.

"In the Kupyansk sector, air force and artillery of the western group of forces struck enemy units near Dvurechnoye of the Kharkov region and Novoselovskoye of the Lugansk People's Republic," he said.

A sabotage and reconnaissance unit was neutralized in the Kharkov region, he said.

The Ukrainian army's losses in said sector over the past 24 hours included over 60 troops, an armored fighting vehicle, two automobiles, two Grad multiple rocket launchers, a U.S.-made M109 Paladin artillery system, and an Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system, Konashenkov said.

"In the southern Donetsk and Zaporozhye sectors, aircraft and artillery of the eastern group of forces struck enemy units near Vodyanoye and Ugledar in the Donetsk People's Republic," Konashenkov said.

"The enemy's losses amounted to up to 110 Ukrainian troops, one tank, two automobiles, and a Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system," he said.

In the Kherson sector, "up to 40 Ukrainian soldiers were killed, and an armored fighting vehicle, three automobiles, and an Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system were destroyed in the past 24 hours," Konashenkov said.
