Russian troops repel attack by mock enemy saboteurs at drills in Kyrgyzstan

YEKATERNBURG. May 12 (Interfax) - Personnel of the Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan repelled an attack by a mock enemy sabotage group on a fuel depot during an exercise, the press service for Russia's Central Military District said on Friday.

"A mock enemy sabotage group attempted to seize a fuel depot of the military base. Russian troops opened fire to repel the attack, prevented an attempt to blow up the fence and drove the mock enemy formation away from the territory of the military base," the press service said.

About 50 servicemen and ten pieces of military hardware, including BTR-82 armored personnel carriers, took part in the drills.

The joint Russian military base is located in the Chuy region of Kyrgyzstan. The base is part of the collective rapid reaction forces and is involved in ensuring the security of the Collective Security Treaty Organization's airspace. The base has Sukhoi Su-25 attack aircraft and Mil Mi-8MTV5-1 modernized helicopters.
