Russian Baltic Fleet commanders study foreign navies' capacities at training meeting

MOSCOW. May 16 (Interfax) - A training meeting of commanding officers, where they studied bases and combat potential of Baltic region countries' navies, has taken place, Russia's Baltic Fleet press service said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The training meeting of heads of ship departments, battalions and groups took place in the Baltic Fleet under the supervision of ship commanders. About 100 officers from over 50 Baltic Fleet warships took part in the event," the press service said.

"At the meeting, the officers studied the specifics of the international situation in the Baltic Fleet's zone of responsibility, alongside the composition, organization, basing and combat potential of navies of Baltic region countries. The meeting participants also familiarized themselves with combat training regulations," the press service said.

"The tactical training addressed various engagement scenarios for combined-arms naval groups in the Baltic Sea. At the end of the meeting, all participants took tests on the studied theory and practices and were cleared for commanding their departments," the press service said.

"The primary objective of the meeting is to achieve a high level of individual professional training of ship commanding officers and to upgrade officers' skills through the fulfillment of crews' training combat missions in a variety of games and exercises, and in artillery, missile and air defense firing drills," it said.
