NEW YORK, UN. May 16 (Interfax) - Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the United Nations secretary-general, has commended the African initiative for settling the conflict in Ukraine.
"As we said before, we are in favor of any initiative that could lead us to peace in line with the UN Charter, the international law and in line with the General Assembly resolutions," Dujarric said, adding that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa had a telephone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday.
Ramaphosa said earlier on Tuesday that African nations are planning to propose a peace initiative to Moscow and Kiev to resolve the situation in Ukraine.
Ramaphosa said that a delegation made up of leaders from a number of African states plans to visit Moscow and Kiev, where they are expected to present their plan. The leaders of Zambia, Senegal, the Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Egypt, and South Africa participated in planning the mission, he said.
