MOSCOW. May 17 (Interfax) - Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and Chairman of Iran's Supreme Court Seyyed Ahmad Mortazavi Moghaddam discussed sharing legislative experience, including with regard to safeguarding sovereignty, strengthening security and counteracting Western sanctions, during a meeting on Wednesday, the State Duma's press service said.
"We need to strengthen the independence and national sovereignty of Russia and Iran in the interests of our countries' citizens," the press service quoted Volodin as saying.
The Russian State Duma has a commission tasked with investigating foreign states' interference in Russia's internal affairs, and Russian MPs stand ready to share their experience of legislative work with their Iranian colleagues, he said.
The Russian State Duma and the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran are engaged in a constructive dialogue on a wide variety of issues, ranging from the economy and regional development to security and counterterrorism, Volodin said, adding that the leaders of the two countries set the pace of bilateral relations.
Volodin also spoke in favor of joint efforts with Iran to find effective solutions for countering challenges and sharing experience and best practices.
"In terms of parliamentary work, we have been taking measures to protect our country's sovereignty from external interference and to safeguard traditional values," he said.
The chairman of the State Duma's Committee on Security and Corruption Control, Vasily Piskaryov, was also present at the meeting.
