FSB reports detaining four sponsors of Syrian terrorists in Russian regions

MOSCOW. May 17 (Interfax) - Four abettors of the Hayat Tahrir ash-Sham terrorist network, which is banned in Russia, have been detained in Dagestan, Transbaikal Territory and the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Region, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB)'s public relations center said on Wednesday.

"The Russian Federal Security Service has detained four abettors of the Hayat Tahrir ash-Sham international terrorist network (banned in Russia), which operates in Syria, as a result of coordinated investigations in Transbaikal Territory, the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Region and the Republic of Dagestan," the FSB said.

The suspects "followed orders from the terrorist network's operatives and regularly transferred funds to the accounts of militants for the procurement of weapons, vehicles and equipment, and terrorist propaganda," it said.

Communication devices, payment tools and "other documentary evidence of illegal activity" have been seized from the detainees' residencies, the FSB said.

A criminal case has been opened on counts of aiding and abetting terrorism.
