BELGOROD. May 17 (Interfax) - One person has been injured in a mine explosion in the Belgorod district, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported on Wednesday.
"A casualty has been reported in the Belgorod district. A resident of Cheremoshnoye village was cutting grass in a ravine, when he stepped on a Lepestok mine and his right foot was blown off," Gladkov said on Telegram.
An ambulance took the man to a hospital. "He is in the anti-shock operating room. All necessary medical assistance is being provided," he said.
Gladkov warned the region's population about "the threat of mines."
"Dear residents of the region, the threat of mines persists as a result of earlier attacks on the region's border territories. I ask you to stay away from forested areas in all municipalities bordering Ukraine," he said.
The border territories of the Belgorod region have sporadically come under attacks from Ukraine since February 24, 2022. There are civilian casualties. The region has declared a yellow (high) level of terrorist alert, and a state of emergency is in effect in 15 towns along the border.
