MINSK. May 23 (Interfax) - Belarus is building five outposts on a section of its border with Ukraine, Belarusian State Border Committee Chairman Anatoly Lappo said on Tuesday.
"The modernization of border outpost systems continues: one facility is due to be completed by the year-end and another four have started being built. New hardware and unmanned aerial vehicles are being purchased," Lappo was quoted by the BelTA state news agency as saying.
Towards Mozyr, in southern Belarus, a Soviet-style three-outpost maneuverable group has already been formed, he said. "It is no secret that armored vehicles and mortar groups were added there. With the enemy reinforcing itself, the border is not quiet: you know how many guns have passed through civilian hands, there are also provocations," Lappo said.
Still, "the border situation is predictable and manageable. The most complicated one is in the south, because this is the first time that sovereign Belarus has to protect its border with a state where hostilities are taking place," he added.
