TBILISI. May 24 (Interfax) - NATO is concerned about the reaction of members of the Georgian parliament to Russia's decision to resume direct flights between the two countries and waive visa requirements for Georgian citizens.
The reactions of some members of the Georgian parliament and members of the government to the resumption of flights are a matter of concern for NATO, Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia Javier Colomina, who is currently in Tbilisi, told reporters on Wednesday.
It may give Russia space for potentially bypassing sanctions, Colomina said. NATO called on the government of Georgia to take measures to make sure it does not happen, he said.
He said he conveyed a message to the Georgian authorities that partners understand that the decision to resume direct air travel was made by Moscow unilaterally, but NATO believes that everyone should support Ukraine now.
