WASHINGTON. May 24 (Interfax) - The United States is verifying reports that weapons supplied by the U.S. to Ukraine could have been used by Ukrainian forces for attacks on the territory of the Belgorod region, U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Mathew Miller said.
"We're looking into the reports but we have not reached any conclusions at this time," Miller told a briefing.
He also reiterated that the United States does not support "the use of U.S. military equipment being used for attacks inside Russia." Miller also said again that he is currently skeptical about the allegations that U.S. weapons were used in the Belgorod region.
Belgorod region governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Tuesday the counterterrorist operation regime imposed due to the infiltration by a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group had been lifted in the region. The regime was in effect since Monday.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the Ukrainian forces that invaded the Belgorod region had been eliminated.
The border territories of the Belgorod region have been attacked from the Ukrainian side since February 24, 2022. For this reason, a "yellow" (high) level of terrorist threat was introduced in the region. A state of emergency was introduced in 15 border settlements.
