FSB releases video of questioning in case of attempted blasts of Leningrad, Kalinin NPPs power towers

MOSCOW. May 25 (Interfax) - The public relations center of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has released footage of the detention and questioning of two Ukrainian saboteurs, who were plotting to blow up over 30 power transmission towers of the Leningrad and Kalinin nuclear power plants.

The video shows explosive devices attached to transmission towers and the suspects' detention.

Detainee Alexander Maistruk said in the video they "mined seven towers in one evening in the Likhoslavl area and headed to the Leningrad region on the next day." "I mined three towers. Usatenko went to mine another two, but an accidental explosion happened and we ran away. Kishchak and I left and we lost Usatenko," he said.

Eduard Usatenko said he was recruited by the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine in October 2022.

The video also shows sappers at work and large quantities of explosives found.

Earlier on Thursday, the FSB reported the detention of two members of a Ukrainian sabotage group plotting to blow up over 30 transmission towers of the Leningrad and Kalinin nuclear power plants, which could cause a shutdown of the nuclear reactors. Another group member is now wanted.

Two Russian citizens, who provided the saboteurs with communication devices and cars with fake license plates, have also been detained.

A criminal case was opened on counts of sabotage and possession of explosives, and the detainees were placed under arrest.
