MOSCOW. May 25 (Interfax) - The 11th international meeting of high-ranking security officials has addressed countering transborder crime, including Afghan opiate trafficking, the press service for the Russian Security Council said.
"A roundtable on international cooperation in the containment of drug trafficking has been held during the 11th international meeting of high-ranking security officials. Russian State Secretary, Deputy Interior Minister Igor Zubov chaired the meeting," the press service said.
The participants discussed "the joint countering of transborder crime" and the relevance of combatting Afghan opiate trafficking, it said.
"It was noted that illegal production, processing, transit and sales of Afghan opiates, cocaine and other types of drugs are largely controlled by Western security services, which, in particular, spend the criminal revenue on funding subversive operations in various parts of the world," the press service said.
The 11th international meeting of high-ranking security officials is taking place in the Moscow region on May 23-25 under the aegis of the Russian Security Council.
Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev represents Moscow at the meeting. His counterparts are Security Council secretaries, national security advisors and assistants, deputy prime ministers, and heads of security services and law enforcement agencies.
