Russian prosecutor general sees potential for developing relations with Egyptian counterpart in joint scientific, educational projects

CAIRO. May 25 (Interfax) - The Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov has suggested increasing the exchange of experience with the Egyptian Prosecutor General's Office, in particular in establishing cooperation between the universities of the two countries' prosecutor general's offices.

Meaningful cooperation between prosecutor's services of the two countries continues to strengthen and fully complies with the way of a multilateral strategic partnership established by the Russian and Egyptian leaders, Krasnov said on Thursday at a meeting with Egyptian Prosecutor General Hamada El-Sawy.

"I also see considerable potential for further development of mutual relations in educational and scientific projects," he said.

The University of the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation is able to organize free courses for foreign prosecutors to increase their awareness of the most advanced practices in the field, Krasnov said. "If [you are] interested, we will gladly host our colleagues from Egypt," he said. Egypt also has an educational establishment for prosecutors, he said.

"I suggest considering the issue of the two universities signing a relevant cooperation agreement. That will make it possible to exchange scientific delegations, including for organizing educational events, on a systemic basis. Officials from the University of the Prosecutor's Office and the Military University of the Defense Ministry could represent Russia there," Krasnov said.

Several bilateral events were held in Moscow and Cairo after a program of cooperation between the two countries prosecutor general's offices was signed in St. Petersburg last year, he said. Russian and Egyptian prosecutors exchanged experience on preventing cybercrime, illegal turnover of cryptocurrencies, and protecting the rights of entrepreneurs. During the Russian prosecutor general's visit to Egypt, officials of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office attended a roundtable meeting in Cairo on issues relating to international legal cooperation that were of mutual interest, including the cross-border fight against information crime and money laundering.

"I suggest increasing such an exchange of experience. We expect an Egyptian delegation to visit Moscow literally in two weeks to discuss best practices in preventing terrorism and extremism. I am certain that this issue is of special interest to both Russia and Egypt," he said.
