EAEU-Iran free trade agreement will expand trade cooperation with third countries - Pashinyan

YEREVAN. May 25 (Interfax) - Implementing a free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran is a priority for Armenia, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.

"Considering the rapid pace of the development of cooperation with Iran, bringing a free trade agreement into effect and its subsequent implementation are priorities for us, in the context of practically expanding our trade cooperation with third countries," Pashinyan said at a Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting in Moscow on Thursday.

Continued negotiations with India and Egypt, a comprehensive economic dialogue, and deeper trade-related and economic cooperation with the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia would provide an additional impetus to the EAEU's integration into the global economy, Pashinyan said.

"Despite the results achieved, proceeding from the current situation, we need to rapidly develop efficient mechanisms for interacting with our partners from third countries, which would consistently produce conditions for the stable development of our economies," he said.

Efficiently planning the steps needed to develop a common economic space assumes that there is an open dialogue between businesspeople, he said.

Pashinyan reiterated Armenia's willingness to consistently pursue joint projects in order to achieve mutually acceptable decisions on important aspects of the EAEU's functioning.
