EU, Chinese envoy in consultations over Ukraine - European External Action Service

BRUSSELS. May 25 (Interfax) - The European External Action Service (EEAS)'s Deputy Secretary-General Enrique Mora has received the Chinese government's Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui in Brussels, the EEAS said in a statement on Thursday.

"The Deputy Secretary-General stressed that restoring a just and lasting peace in Ukraine in accordance with international law is of vital importance for the EU," the statement said.

"Mora welcomed [...] China's recent engagement with Ukraine, including at leaders' level," and reaffirmed that the "EU was committed to supporting Ukraine in the long term."

The EU said it expected China, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, "to play a constructive role and to use every occasion to uphold and promote the UN Charter and international law and to recall the necessity to respect the principles of sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

"Both sides agreed to remain in touch and to continue working towards a sustainable peace in Ukraine."
