MINSK. May 26 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he believes that a switch to settlements in national currencies with Brazil has good prospects.
"It was a [telephone] conversation with the Brazilian president. With his consent, I would like to pass on the kindest wishes, best wishes for success and good business to all the participants of our meeting today, and to the entire Russian entrepreneurial community," Putin told members of the Russian national entrepreneurs' association Delovaya Rossiya after taking a break for a phone call with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Brazil is a leading trade and economic partner of Russia in Latin America, Putin went on to say.
"Yes, trade figures have slightly dropped owing to difficulties in settlements, but in general, the prospects are very good," he said.
"We are going to correct the situation. This is how we do it with respect to other countries [and] other regions of the world. The way out is simple in this regard; a transition to settlements in national currencies," Putin said.
