Belarusian border guards on high alert - State Border Committee head

MINSK. May 26 (Interfax) - The situation on the Belarusian border is predictable and under control, Belarusian State Border Committee head Anatoly Lappo said.

"The situation on the borders is predictable and under control. It is most difficult in the southern sector, as this is the first time in the history of sovereign Belarus when border guards are protecting the border with a state where hostilities are taking place," Lappo said in an interview with the state-run media outlet SB. Belarus Segodnya on Friday.

"If the enemy is getting stronger, the border is not calm. How many weapons are in the hands of civilians? You know that there are provocations as well," he said.

"We are protecting the border appropriately; we are on high alert," Lappo said.
