Belarus ensures security of roads on border with Russia - Belarusian Security Council secretary

MINSK. May 29 (Interfax) - Belarus has ensured the security of roads on the border with Russia, Belarusian Security Council State Secretary Alexander Volfovich said on Sunday.

"Belarus has taken relevant steps and has reinforced the border. Close interaction between all security services - the State Security Committee, border guards and the Interior Ministry - has been organized. The Armed Forces have been deployed as the second echelon, with the special ops units of the Armed Forces guarding the main directions of possible terror attacks, where illegal armed units may come from. We are focusing, in the particular, on the eastern border," Volfovich said in an interview with the state-run television channel ONT.

"We are absolutely not shutting out our strategic partners, the Russian Federation, but we are perfectly aware of the actual absence of the border with the Russian Federation. [...] Hence, we have taken a number of measures, in particular, to ensure the security of secondary roads of various kinds, besides main roads. There has been some discontent in the press, but the primary objective is security of people in both the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation," Volfovich said.
