MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - The future satellite communication network SR NET will be transmitting satellite signals directly to smartphones, Oleg Mansurov, general director of the private space company SR Space, formerly known as Success Rockets, said in an interview with Interfax.
"We have to technologically prove the ability to work directly with smartphones and mobile devices in order to bypass terminals," Mansurov said.
The project is in the experiment stage, he added.
"We can do this theoretically, but have yet to do it in practice. Let us be honest, this is a key task for us," Mansurov said.
According to him, Rostelecom is the network client.
"We are in constant contact with Rostelecom. Our latest meeting took place just a month ago," Mansurov said.
On November 17, 2022, SR Space said it was planning to launch the first satellite of the SR NET multi-satellite low-orbit broadband Internet network in 2024. It said that orbital test flights of the SR NET demonstrator would last for three to six months, after which a decision on the configuration and performance characteristics of the orbital group would be made.
On December 7, 2021, Rostelecom and SR Space signed an agreement to cooperate in the creation of an Internet satellite group. The SR Space press service told Interfax that Rostelecom would be using the satellites, while the network itself would be developed independently of Rostelecom.
