MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - Russia will be represented at a due level at the BRICS summit in South Africa, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"Russia attributes huge significance to the development of this integration format. Russia will be taking part in this summit at the due level. We will keep you posted about details," Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.
He was asked if the Kremlin knows whether the Russian president will attend the BRICS summit in South Africa in August.
As to whether a decision of South African authorities to grant diplomatic immunity to summit participants, which, however, does not protect from international court warrants, may influence the level of Russian representation, Peskov said, "Indeed, we are hoping that partners in such an important format at least will not rely on illegal rulings of the kind."
The Pretrial Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children's Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova in March 2023.
Moscow calls the ruling illegal and void. The judge and the prosecutor of the ICC related to the warrant have been put on the wanted list in Russia.
